# Character graphics attribution and redistribution

The stroke outlines and medians are from **Hanzi Writer Data 2.0.1**, commit `68d10a4b21150cae5e1ebbd223eed289cf32d90c`, by David Chanin and contributors. That data is derived from **Make Me A Hanzi** by Shaunak Kishore, whose graphics were extracted from Arphic PL KaitiM GB / Arphic PL UKai fonts. The character graphics are distributed under the **Arphic Public License**, not the Hanzi Writer runtime's MIT licence.

The exact, unmodified licence is supplied as `ARPHICPL.TXT`. The original Make Me A Hanzi `COPYING` notice is supplied as `MAKEMEAHANZI-COPYING.txt`; the dictionary mentioned there is not included or used here.

**Modification notice, 2026-10-27:** the new dataset “Eddy 95 static handwriting subset” selects 95 target characters plus two explicitly supplemental visual examples (心、水), repackages their ordered paths and medians, and adds lesson metadata plus independent GF0023—2020 facts. Path geometry and stroke order have not been redrawn or reordered. QA PNGs sample those same paths for static inspection. This modified graphics subset is provided in the openly readable `data/handwriting-graphics.json` and `data/handwriting-supplemental-visuals.json` under the same Arphic terms, without additional restrictions. The licence disclaims warranty. Original lesson prose and exercises are independent material; this notice does not purport to license them as font data.

For redistribution, keep this notice and the unmodified ARPHICPL.TXT with the graphics, retain the per-record source/modification notices, and make the modified graphics data available to recipients. Generated SVGs should carry the same source/modification information and link to the licence. A discreet copyright/no-warranty/licence-access notice in the document's sources/reference page preserves attribution without inserting it into every learner task.

The official GF facts have their own source/locator/hash in `gf-0023-2020-facts.json`; they are not represented as Arphic artwork. The official PDF is referenced, not redistributed here.
